The American Family Association has created an online “sign the letter” form where people who believe that the LGBT community should not be treated with dignity, respect and equality can show their support of Chik-fil-A’s anti-equality stance (hat tip to Good As You).
To add insult to injury, the actually use the following text:
“The ‘Big Gay’ machine has ramped up an un-relenting and vicious public attack against Chick-fil-A. Homosexual activists are spewing hate-filled bigotry and intolerance toward the company in unprecedented fashion.”
Let’s break this down:
- If there is a “Big Gay” machine I want to see it because I’m sure it is fabulous and makes the most amazing glitter-encrusted rainbows that generate energy out of pure happiness.
- What “vicious public attack”? Do you mean the “National Same Sex Kiss Day at Chick-Fil-A” scheduled for Friday, August 3, 2012 where people can visit their local Chik-fil-A and peacefully protest the chain’s anti-equality policy through non-violent and brief expression of love for their partner?
- What “hate-filled bigotry and intolerance”? Unless this is Opposite Day I don’t think anyone on the side of equality is expressing “hate-filled bigotry and intolerance.” Show me the quotes, in context, and then I’ll consider your point.
UPDATE:
In reference to #3 above, how’s this for “hate-filled bigotry and intolerance”? This is a screen capture (hat tip to Towleroad) from the Southwest Tea Party’s Twitter account. This is the kind of disgusting, hate-filled ignorance that the LGBT community deals with from bigoted zealots. This is what needs to change.
