Stacey Campfield: In His Own (False) Words

Stacey Campfield has posted a response to the story about being turned away from Knoxville’s Bistro.  You can read his complete failure to understand what FACTS are in his words.

Note that he titles the post “More fun than a barrel of monkeys” which comes across as smug and only furthers my feelings on how simple he must truly be.  Says Stacey:

I have been quite open and clear on my beliefs and have backed them up with facts from the CDC and others.

Again, Campfield needs to look up the definition of facts.  He has yet to point to a current CDC study supporting his lies.

He goes on to say he is not prejudice and bases this on the following:

In the 60’s my grandfather sat at the lunch counters with the blacks in Knoxville to help break up the segregation of the races.

Ah, your grandfather sitting at the counter with African-Americans proves that you are not prejudiced?  Really?

He follows with:

Some people have told me my civil rights were violated under the 1964 civil rights act in that a person can not be denied service based on their religious beliefs. (I am catholic and the catholic church does not support the act of homosexuality) I had not thought about that much.

No, you were denied because of your religious beliefs.  You were denied for being an ignorant and hateful bigot who is trying to spread hurtful lies.  The Federal Civil Rights Act guarantees all people the right to “full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, and accommodations of any place of public accommodation, without discrimination or segregation on the ground of race, color, religion, or national origin.” It does not protect people from being turned away based on their right to speak lies. In the 2001 California case, Hessians Motorcycle Club V. Flanagans, the motorcycle club was denied service at Flanagans sports bar because they refused to remove their “colors” (the patch on a motorcycle jacket signifying membership in a particular club) before entering. The case file reads:

The excluded club members sued, asserting the tavern violated their rights under the Unruh Civil Rights Act (Civ.Code,1 §§ 51, 52; hereafter the Unruh Civil Rights Act or the Act). In a trial based on stipulated facts, the court found no Unruh Civil Rights Act violation and entered judgment for the bar. We affirm.

The parties stipulated to the following facts: Defendant J.C. Flanagans (Flanagans) is a sports bar which admits patrons wearing casual attire, including “motorcycle” attire, with one pertinent restriction. Flanagans refuses entry to anyone wearing “colors” or a patch indicating membership in a particular motorcycle club. Flanagans offers a security rationale for the policy: ?Its management believes allowing colors to be worn would lead to fights between rival motorcycle gangs in the bar. No such incident has ever occurred at Flanagans.

On two different occasions, members of two motorcycle clubs (collectively, the Hessians) were turned away at the door of Flanagans because they refused to remove their colors. The Hessians sued for damages and injunctive relief, claiming the bar’s admission policy constituted unlawful discrimination under the Unruh Civil Rights Act.

So, yes Stacey, you can be turned away and the Bistro has every right to do so to protect their other clients. Who knows what kind of danger you could pose to the public with your failings as an educated adult in a position of authority.

Marc, a reader, pointed out in my last Campfield post that the Senator lists his occupation as “Self employed and loving it!” on his Facebook profile.  The reader commented, “Doesn’t being a state senator mean that you, like, work for the people of your district?”  Correct.

Check out this follow-up interview he did today on Midweek Politics where he continues to tread water with his incorrect information while David Pakman asks thought-provoking questions which Campfield cannot, for the life of him, answer with supporting information.  It would be hysterical if it wasn’t so sad.  He just continues to spew falsehoods.
