Overheard: Political Awareness Fail

Overheard between two 20-something coeds walking through Times Square, texting as they talk and walk.

Coed 1: You’re from South Carolina, right?
Coed 2: No, North Carolina.
Coed 1: Oh, but you’re following the debates right?
Coed 2: I guess. Why?
Coed 1: Well, are you, like, glad that Newt Greenwich won?
Coed 2: Wait, who?
Coed 1: Newt Greenwich.
Coed 2: Greenwich? Is that his name?
Coed 1: Yeah, he was born in the Village or something.
Coed 2: But aren’t people from the Village gay?
Coed 1: Well yeah, I guess, but that’s what we want right? I mean, a gay president would be amazing!

(facepalm)

Yes, yes, Newt “Greenwich” is gay. You two young women are the reason I fear for the future of our country.
