“Girl Scout” Boycotting Cookies Because of Transgendered Girls

UPDATE: A friend helped me find the following which clarifies the “not a Girl Scout” statement from Ms. Kalina. So the girl in the video IS a Girl Scout. Regardless, she’s an embarrassment to the Scouts and to humanity.

“She meant that the transgender child ended up not joining the girl scouts. Remember a few months ago, when seven-year-old Bobby Montoya gained national attention because he ‘liked girl stuff’ and wanted to join his local Girl Scouts chapter? After a giant PR headache, the organization decided to let Montoya in, saying ‘if a child identifies as a girl and the child’s family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout.’ Despite the fact that Montoya didn’t actually join his local troupe, the decision to allow him to do so instantly infuriated some conservative troupes, who called the move ‘extremely confusing’ and an ‘almost dangerous situation.’”

Original Post: Reading, and watching, the horror that is a 14-year old spew her disgust at transgendered youth joining the Girl Scouts (see video below) was nearly enough to make me give up on the organization. But, instead of following her request to boycott the cookies (I mean, who is she kidding?) I decided to contact the Colorado Girl Scouts to ask how I could support them by purchasing cookies DIRECTLY from them.

The following is the response I received this afternoon from Amanda Kalina, Director of Public Relations, Girl Scouts of Colorado.

You should know the child who caused all of the media attention to an approach that has been privately and respectfully in place for some time has not joined Girl Scouts. If you are interested in supporting Girl Scout Cookie time, please contact your local council about making a purchase. When a family requests membership for their daughter, we do not require proof of gender, we respect the decisions of families.

~~So, not only is the girl in the video (see below) ignorant and bigoted but she’s also NOT a Girl Scout.~~
