I just got a reply on Twitter (see below) following my tweet about my post earlier today concerning Viki Knox, the New Jersey teacher who has poured her bigotry and hate-filled speech on the internet through Facebook and Twitter.
The reply was from @homo_sexuality whose Twitter page reads fully as “Struggling with homo_sexuality”. Well, @homo_sexuality, I wish you no ill will. You are struggling and I hope you come to terms with your issues. But to send me a message that reads:
This is just inane. To accuse me of bullying when I am simply calling for a constructive and thorough inquiry into Ms. Knox’s ability to serve her students in an unbiased fashion, considering New Jersey’s strict anti-bullying laws, is absurd. If you, as you appear to do, define bullying as “declaring opposition to another person’s online commentary” then you have to use the same definition for Ms. Knox. Did I say she anything as harsh like her being “perverted” or “breeds like cancer”? Nope, not me. That was Ms. Knox who chose to take shake her opinions free, letting them fall on the ears and eyes of the world. If Ms. Knox was as Christian as she seems to profess (it is her “bio” on Twitter where she says she is an “elder/teacher of the gospel of Christ”), then she knows she should not judge lest she be judged. So here I am, judging her in the same public arena that she chose to express herself.
Ah, breaking news, @homo_sexuality just replied again:
So, to answer your question @homo_sexuality, yes, she can have her beliefs. I welcome her to them. She, and you, can think that I and the millions of other people who deeply love another human being and who are not blinded by hatred, are perverts and cancers. But I ask you this: who is breeding darkness here? Not me. I’m asking for unity and faith in the human spirit. What exactly are you asking for? What is the shared goal that you and Viki Knox have? Would you see all homosexuals “put to death”? (Leviticus 20:13) That’s what your bible says. Should we follow the biblical law now? (By the way, if you do think we should follow the bible precisely as written – or re-written by King James – then you’re going to have to give up a lot more stuff, oh, and you will have to be okay with men marrying more than one woman and with the ownership of other people… there’s some pretty dark and nasty stuff in there right next to the golden rule and the heavenly gates).
I don’t think you want any of that. Which is why I ask you, honestly, what do you want? The forum is open and I’m happy to engage in a peaceful, adult conversation with you. Tell me. I really want to understand what could make someone think so little of another person that they would call them such filthy words. The ball is in your court @homo_sexuality. You too Ms. Knox. Tell the world exactly what you want. All I want is to open your eyes to see that no one needs to suffer from hateful speech.
